He is out of his jurisdiction, out of his depth, out of bacon sandwiches, occasionally snookered and out of his mind, but never out of guile. Where there is a crime there must be a finding, there must be a chase and there must be a punishment.
They say that in the end all sins are forgiven.

If you’re looking for a light hearted trip to the Discworld then with this title you’ll be disappointed as the dark edge that appeared in Monstrous Regiment (Discworld 31) is back in this the 39th Adventure into the fantastical world where up can be down and black is never truly that hue.
There’s death (please note not the Big D), there’s murder, there’s politic double dealing, and at the centre of it all is Commander Sam Vimes, who’s out of his jurisdiction, out of his depth and of course, thanks to Lady Sybil, out of Bacon Butties. Add to this Policing on the hoof, where matters have to be dealt with in his own ad hoc manner which when added to an inept Country Copper, a band of dodgy smugglers and a whole boat load of trouble takes the reader on one hell of a ride.
All in, it’s a decent read and whilst the humour from the series is missing from this one, it was a welcome holiday not only for Vimes but the reader so it’ll be interesting to see what Terry comes up with next, especially with his next project including working with Sci-Fi Legend Stephen Baxter.
