CRIME THRILLER REVIEW: Cage of Bones - Tania Carver

Release Date: 15/09/11

SYNOPSIS:

A shocking double-murder scene greets Detective Inspector Philip Brennan when he is called to a flat in Colchester. Two women are viciously cut open and laying spreadeagled, one tied to the bed, one on the floor. The woman on the bed has had her stomach cut into and her unborn child is missing. But this is the third time Phil and his team have seen such an atrocity. Two other pregnant women have been killed in this way and their babies taken from them. No-one can imagine what sort of person would want to commit such evil acts. When psychologist Marina Esposito is brought in, Phil has to put aside his feelings about their shared past and get on with the job. But can they find the killer before another woman is targeted?

REVIEW:

There are times when I want a book that doesn’t require thinking, times when I want a book to ask questions and of course times where I get taken away on one hell of an adventure, but the one common theme that always runs through them is that I have to have a character I can associate with as well as want to spend time alongside as events unfurl. What is presented within this title is a whole host of believable characters, some you’ll love, some you’ll loath and of course, some in between.

The world is all too believable and whilst some of the elements may feel a little outlandish they do add to the atmosphere as well as the story as a whole as our intrepid team of investigators take the reader through a horrific couple of cases as they seek to put events of The Surrogate behind them in this gripping and hard to put down crime thriller. Add to this some wicked twists, great character interaction which when backed with solid pace and prose and it’s a title that I had a hard time putting down. Great stuff all in and a real pleasure to read.
