URBAN FANTASY REVIEW: Morris and Chastain: Sympathy for the Devil - Justin Gustainis

Release Date: 04/08/11

SYNOPSIS:

Senator Howard Stark wants to be President of the United States. So does the demon inside him. With the competing candidates dropping out due to scandal, blackmail, and 'accidental' death, Stark looks like a good bet to go all the way to the White House. And if he gets there, Hell on Earth will follow. Occult investigator Quincey Morris and white witch Libby Chastain are determined to stop this evil conspiracy. But between them and Stark stand the dedicated agents of the US Secret Service and the very forces of Hell itself. Quincey and Libby will risk everything to exorcise the demon possessing Stark. If they fail, 'Hail to the Chief' will become a funeral march for all of us.

REVIEW:

OK, I’m a huge fan of Justin’s writing, the plot lines are huge with more twists than a roller coaster, the prose is sharp and when added to the witticisms really makes this a book that’s hard to put down. But, perhaps best of all are the principle characters involved, they are fully realised, have their own hopes and dreams as well as fears and where one is weak either physically or spiritually the other buoy’s the other up.

Add to this “guest” appearances from other well-known Urban Fantasy characters (such as a visit to a certain bar in Chicago) and the reader really is in for a real treat. However add to this a series that has a grounding in an all too familiar reality and it lets the reader believe that there really can be monsters lurking in the dark. All in, this was an absolutely cracking read and when added to having one of the supernatural’s bidding for the most powerful office in America, really could have you believing that perhaps not everything is as is appears in the papers making this cracking magical adventure.
